About Us

It all begins with an idea

In the beginning…

It began with a tinge of curiosity, a spark of imagination that ignited a flame of possibility: Startup Weekend, a global event that allows people to explore what it's like to turn an idea into a business. In 2015, the first one took place in Taranaki and brought together a group of like-minded people who wanted to provide support to those exploring entrepreneurship. We truly believe that entrepreneurship positively changes lives and we are living proof. That's why we love helping others discover the pathway to doing something.

With the intent of building community, in 2016, we began a monthly Startup Meetup to give people the space to learn and connect. Then we started hosting office hours to provide one-on-one mentoring and coaching to people at any stage of their business. Over the years there have been more than a dozen individual volunteers bringing all of this together. In 2022, we became a charity and are continuing to evolve our offering. We have designed and delivered workshops and ideation events and will continue to build our content. We've run 7 successful Startup Weekends that have created several ongoing businesses and our team is involved with the event nationally.

Our Impact

We are connectors, community builders, entrepreneurs, and ultimately, doers. At Doso, we believe that every small action has the potential to make a big difference, and we are dedicated to creating a better world for future generations. Through our activities, we have been able to transform the lives of countless people in small ways. Whether it's opening someone to the possibilities of an entrepreneurial mindset, or putting them in touch with a potential cofounder, our focus is on community, wayfinding, celebration and events. All in the name of supporting those who want to do something.
